Listening and Score study for Wednesday, 1/18:

Three scores and recordings are in my iLocker account at:

The three pieces are:

• Debussy – La cathedrale engloutie
• Bartok – Diminished Fifths
• Tower – Wild Purple (only the first page of the score is included)

All the scores are in your Burkhart Anthology.

Listen to each piece with the score, and examine the score for scales used. Most post-tonal works will switch scales in a manner similar to tonicizing key areas. We’ll discuss these works in class on Wednesday. You should keep in mind that any piece we talk about in class could show up on a test.
