USE DP 5 !!!!!
It seems that anyone who has started the project has run into a problem using DP 4 with Reason. I’ve been in the lab and have encountered the problem (repeatedly).
The only reliable solution I’ve come up with is to use DP 5!
What Changes?
From the previous post on this subject, not much. DP 5 arranges windows as cells within a main work window. The easiest way to work with this is to use the buttons at the top of your track overview window to switch between the mixer, tracks, etc. If you don’t see this row of buttons (maybe you started your project in DP 4), you can open windows just like before.
- First Change: when you set the inputs of an audio track to Reason (any output), you will also see a MON column next to the record-enable column. Click in the MON column for the record-enabled track, and any record-enabled track you want to listen to while recording.
- Second Change: You will need to change the input monitoring mode, and there is only one set of choices (instead of two in DP 4). In DP5, check the Setup | Configure Audio System -> Input Monitoring Mode… , and make sure that Monitor Record-Enabled Tracks through Effects is selected.
I’m sorry that we didn’t go over this upgraded version of DP in class. Given that the changes are very minor, and limited, I think that everyone should be ok. On the plus side, DP5 is a lot more stable than DP4, which means less crashing. (less crashing = good)
