How to Use This Blog

Welcome to TeachingMusic

This blog is primarily intended for Ball State University School of Music in my music theory and computer music classes. It replaces my Blackboard (my.bsu.edu) sites. Other users are welcome to read, but you cannot leave comments. To make this site useful for its intended purpose, I have restricted comments to current students. All material on this blog is licensed using a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 license.

  • Summaries of all my posts are available on the home page.
  • Once I start posting assignments, lecture notes, and other related material, you should be able to use Categories to find the information you want. Categories correspond to courses. Most courses will have sub-categories for lecture notes and assignments.
  • You can Subscribe to categories using RSS feeds. The simplest way is to look for links in the Subscribe section of the right sidebar, and bookmark those links.
  • To make comments about individual posts you will need to have an account for this blog, and be logged in. Please note that this blog is no longer hosted on wordpress.com, so your wordpress account will not work. You need to create an account via this blog’s login page. I encourage you to use the comment feature as a way of asking questions. For example, if you have a question about an assignment you can enter a comment asking your question. I can answer it with a comment – all linked to the original assignment. Other students can see your question and my answer, and they will all benefit from the discussion. Don’t be shy about asking questions. My experience is that rarely does only one student have a particular question.
